North Broadway's school garden was created in 1995 with money they raised through the "General Mills Box Tops for Education" fundraiser. It was named "The Secret Garden" because of its hidden location on
the school grounds. North Broadway teacher and garden volunteer Ken McFadden enjoys seeing his students take delight and learn
in their school garden.

The school garden is located on a rectangular plot behind the multipurpose room. The
exterior wall of the multipurpose room was used to paint a garden mural which every student in the school helped to create.

Two students hold the prize-winning lettuce from the school garden entered at the Del Mar Fair. They were awarded the "Best Lettuce in San Diego County." |
Sunflowers are a popular part of this school garden - especially the "sunflower house" where students can walk "inside" the large plot and pretend they are in a house made of sunflowers. |
